What farmette would be complete without cats? I have always had cats in my life, even after moving out to my own apartment, I had Willie the kitty who was proclaimed by all who met him as "the coolest cat in the world". Willie was my constant companion during those days of living on my own.

KeKe

KeKe is currently the oldest feline member. She came to us in the late summer of 1998. We got her from a rescue that had rescued her and about 40 others from an animal hoarder. Out of all those cats, KeKe was the only one that came to the door to the cage to say hello when we came into the room. She was just a tiny little bit of a thing, underweight, and with a very thin, sparse haircoat. My daughter was almost 2 at the time, and she wanted to name her. So, that is why her name is KeKe, which is how she said Kitty at that age.

KeKe has blossomed into a wonderful cat. She is so friendly and outgoing, she loves everyone. She is very compassionate, also. Whenever any of the kids is upset and crying, if they have hurt themselves, or been in trouble, KeKe comes running from wherever she was to climb in their lap and purr. She just wants to make them feel better. She also clocks a lot of time on my lap while I'm on the computer.

Space

Space is a HUGE grey tabby cat, given to us by a friend whose female decided to go on a jaunt before she wsa able to get her spayed. Interestingly, Space looks and acts almost exactly like another cat we had, whose name was Burt. Interestingly, one of Burt's brothers was given to a neighbor of this friend about 17 years ago. Perhaps Space is one of Burt's nephews? I guess I should qualify this and remind you that I have children, so Space (as well as KeKe) were both named by the children. KeKe was named by my daughter when she was 2, and Space was named by my son when he was 5.

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of space right now. I lost 7 years worth of photos in a lightening storm in June of 2008. Space is a confirmed night owl, so I haven't managed to get new photos of him yet.

The Barn Cats
We also have recently acquired 3 barn cats. They were trapped ferals all from pretty bad neighborhoods.

Misty is on the left, and she likes to think that she runs the barn. Despite her gorgeous appearance, she is not a very affectionate cat. She will accept some attention, but after a moment, she's off with a hiss and a whack of the paw and swishing tail. Daisy, on the right, reminds Misty that in fact, Daisy is the one that is really in charge, she just lets Misty think she is every now and then. Its nearly impossible to get a photo of Daisy, because she is always on the move. Busy, busy, busy, that's Daisy, she always has placed to go, people to see, and things to do. Her daily agenda is very full, and on the top of that daily agenda is torment, torturing, and teasing the dogs. She'll come down to the house and look in all the windows until the dogs go crazy, prance in front of the sliding door on the deck, and lie down just outside of reach and have a bath. She is quite a character! The third barn cat is Gracie, and she is extremely shy and I have no photos of her. In 4 months she only now comes out of the barn and wanders about a 30 foot radius around the door. She is a tiny little short-haired grey cat, with a few sprinkles of white on her chest and thats it. She's a lovely, tiny little thing, but incredibly shy and skittish.
