Lakota is a 10 year old mare that was a broodmare until the age of 7 when I bought her in 2003. She was thin, and hadn't had much handling. I couldn't catch her for the first year I had her, and with a lot of work and patience, she is now impossible to get rid of!
This is Lakota in April of 2003, the day after she arrived here.

She is just coming under saddle this past summer (2006), and I continue to work with her over the winter. She is doing extremely well.
After Joe did so well on the VitaRoyal program, I'm going to begin switching Lakota (and the rest of the herd) over, and I want to keep track of the changes in them on this feed program. What I would like to see, and expect to see, is for her to stand less cow-hocked behind, for her to grow more mane and tail (she is a Curly, and they tend to shed mane and tail. Lakota has not shed this much mane AND tail before she was put on a soy-based high protein feed). I would also like to see her frogs look just a bit better.

I just like these pictures ;-)

12/4/06 - Begin with Triple Dose Panacur deworming.
Watch here for updates! I plan on starting her on this feed later in the week, probably this weekend, and put the herd on the Xenodetox as well.

Due to some unforseen personal circumstances, I have been unable to keep them on the Untie, and have been unable to put them on Xenodetox. They have been on the Hi-Pro Balancer only. I hope to begin that portion of the program in a few months when things stabilize here at home. In the meantime, my trimmer said that there is now absolutely NO sign of white line separation, wahoo!!!!!!! Lakota's coat seems to be much softer and silky feeling than previous winters. I will be interested to see how much mane she sheds in the spring.

March 17, 2006 -

June, 2007 ~ Lakota has really filled out and muscled up over the winter and spring. The best part, is that her white line separation is GONE! There is no more flaring at all on her hooves, and she is rock-crunching sound. I will be taking some new photos of her hooves again as soon as the ground dries out (muddy feet are no fun to photograph). Unfortunately, her mane did not stay in, and I roachedi t the other day, as she looked silly with just whispies. However, that mane began growing in before I started VR, so next summer should be a better test, as she will have been on it while the mane was growing in. It seems to shed out in June, and start growing again in November/December.
